Gwen Guthrie – ‘Peanut Butter’

‘Peanut Butter’ could easily mistaken for an early Prince record if it wasn’t for Guthrie’s vocals. The funky backing music, provided by the Compass Point All Stars, is really infectious.

They lyrics are… interesting. They go from being fairly bland in the verses to the chorus of “spread yourself over me like peanut butter”. I don’t like peanut butter, but I don’t think of it as a particularly sexy foodstuff. I have several different theories about what she wants this guy to actually do – none of them are particularly sexy.
