Dee D. Jackson – ‘Automatic Lover’

Space disco is one of those genres that lived for such a short time, but left such an impression (at least on me, 30+ years later). ‘Automatic Lover’ is cheesy in the extreme, but I still love it because of how seriously Jackson takes this silly song. I mean, how do you even deliver lines like:

Love in space and time

Your body’s cold, there’s not a hair to hold

He’s programmed to receive automatic satisfaction
When your love is dead, where’s your true reaction

Track: Automatic Lover
Artist: Dee D. Jackson
Year: 1978
From: Cosmic Curves [Jupiter]
