I’ve had Hercules & Love Affair’s eponymous debut album on repeat for the last couple of days – which happens from time to time. It’s a wonderful modern disco record, upbeat and soothing. I have a few standout tracks, but today’s selection is one that I’ve had on repeat the most.
I don’t often focus on a song’s lyrics, but there’s something powerful about how understated ‘Iris’ is. Off the top of your head, how many songs can you think of with the main theme of “think of others before yourself”? I struggle. And this is not a grand gesture either: “This moment is yours and you can give it to someone else”.
Understated, soothing, humble and beautiful.
